Layers We Wear
Share
Looking around, we see many different layers people can put on, layers that help them look different, or look more like themselves. It might seem like something we could ignore, but that wouldn’t be true. We notice what others wear, and we choose the layers that make us visible, not only to ourselves, but also to others.
When We Want to Stand Out
Sometimes we want to be seen, noticed, to stand out. Then the layers we choose are original, bright, eccentric, something with a twist, something that belongs only to that piece.
When We Want Quiet Harmony
But not everyone needs attention. Sometimes what we need is calm, harmony, and a quiet way of showing who we are.
We Care More Than We Think
We could say, “Who cares about the layers we put on?” ,but then we would be lying to ourselves. We care more than we think about what we put on, how it looks, and what it’s made of. It’s not that we need a loud brand to show everyone, but there are moments when it matters. And we appreciate ourselves, because it has been earned.
Values in Layers
The value we give to the layers we wear reflects how we want to be valued. It matters to us what happens to us and how others see who we are. Yes, outer layers can say a lot, but they can also stay silent.
Of course, the inner self is what shapes how we choose our layers. Big achievements and high status give us a choice: to show, through our layers, that it is noticeable or to soften achievements with modesty and comfortable simplicity. Everything is a choice. We choose our layers, and we choose how to present them.
The Final Choice Is Always Ours
No matter what we choose, no matter how we feel or how we value ourselves, we will still choose what layers we wear on the outside how we show ourselves. Every small thing, consciously or unconsciously, is chosen to position ourselves: to see ourselves, and to let others see what we value. The decisions about the layers we wear are and will remain decisions we make when we want to look the way we look.
